Why Did I Get Married Too?

Posted by Crystal Booker on April 2, 2010

Tyler Perry has done it again! This long awaited sequel to the hit movie “Why Did I Get Married?” is totally worth the wait. Tyler Perry reunites the same cast from the previous movie. Tyler Perry and Sharon Leal reprise their roles as Terry and Diane, Janet Jackson and Malik Yoba reprise their roles as Patricia and Gavin, Jill Scott and Lammon Rucker are back as Sheila and Troy, Richard T. Jones reprises his role as Mike Sheila’s now ex-husband and everybody’s favorite big mouth Angela played by Tasha Smith is back along with her husband Marcus played by Michael Jai White. This time instead of heading to the cold mountains of Colorado the group heads to the Bahamas for their annual marriage retreat. The scenery is breath takingly beautiful and the perfect location for this movie.

Everything may seem fine on the surface, but once again all is not what it seems. Diane and Terry seem to have overcome their problems, but Diane has a secret. Once again Angela is dissatisfied with Marcus. No matter what he does it is never enough. Sheila and Troy are adjusting to their new life and the changes that come along with it. Mike is back and he has a life changing secret. Patricia and Gavin aren’t as they seem due to lack of communication. Everyone has some obstacle they must overcome.

In this movie Tyler Perry covers everything from infidelity, trust to dealing with death and life changing circumstances. He leaves nothing to chance. Once again the characters draw you in. Everyone can relate to the situations, feelings and emotions that each character goes through. Under the direction of Tyler Perry all the actors deliver great performances, especially Janet Jackson. I am giving it 5 out of 5 popcorn bags.

The Last Song Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on April 2, 2010

This is a beautiful story. Miley Cyrus really shows her acting ability. It’s good to see her taking on more challenging roles. She delivers a good performance. Greg Kinnear, who plays her father, also delivers a good performance. Miley plays Ronnie a talented teenage girl still dealing with her parent’s divorce. She has a lot of anger towards her father because she feels he just walked out on his family. She and her younger brother are sent to visit their father for the summer. Ronnie is not happy about this at all and she lets it be known just how much she disapproves. Her attitude is one of spite and anger, which she directs at her father. She and her father used to be close. They both share a love of music. Her father taught her how to play the piano at an early age and she became known as a child prodigy.
While walking on the beach near her father’s beach house she meets a guy named Will played by Liam Hemsworth. Ronnie blows him off at first, but he remains persistent. She discovers a nest of turtle eggs that she must protect from predators seeking to eat them. Will assists her with this project, so they sleep on the beach every night watching over the eggs and getting to know each other. They develop a friendship that grows into a budding relationship. Eventually that relationship turns to love and they are inseparable. She even meets his parents. They truly support each other.
Both Will and Ronnie have a lot to face in this story from jealous girlfriends to life changing unforeseen circumstances. This movie is also a tear jerker, so bring plenty of tissue because you will definitely need it. I am giving it 4 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Clash of the Titans Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on April 2, 2010

This movie is a total disappointment. It definitely doesn’t follow Greek Mythology. The 3D was a total waste of time because there are really no scenes in the movie that are enhanced by 3D. Sam Worthington plays Perseus, Liam Neeson plays Zeus and Ralph Fiennes plays Hades. All portray their roles very well.  The special effects aren’t impressive at all. They are mediocre at best. Medusa looks more confused than scary.  The original “Clash of the Titans,“ starring Harry Hamlin and Lawrence Olivier still reigns supreme. This version doesn’t even come close. In this version Perseus is still the son of Zeus and the hero to save the day. Zeus is still the King of the Gods and the Gods still dwell and watch over man from Mount Olympus. This part remains unchanged.

In this version Perseus is saved as an infant by a fisherman and he raises him as his son. Man is waging a war against the Gods. The humans destroy a statue of Zeus and Hades appears and kills them. Perseus and his family are caught in the crossfire and as a result his family is killed. Perseus survives and joins the revolt against the Gods. In doing so he vows to get his revenge on Hades for the death of his family. Io played by Gemma Atherton is a being between being a God and human. She has been cursed with agelessness and she also has been watching and protecting Perseus since he was an infant. She is also a new character along with the Gin who are mystic people with great power. They also ride scorpions.

Yes this version of the tale leaves much to be desired as it navigates away from the accurate tale from Greek Mythology. I am giving it 0 out of 5 popcorn bags.

A Prophet Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on April 1, 2010

This movie is a French foreign film starring Adel Bencharif.  The character he plays is Malik El Djebena a nineteen year old kid sentenced to 6 years in prison. Malik can’t read or write which puts him a disadvantage. When he arrives at the prison he knows no one. He is completely alone, but that would soon change. His shoes were torn with holes, so the guard gives him some new tennis shoes. A couple of inmates mug him and take his shoes. Determined to prove he wasn’t weak he fought back. This display of bravery did not go unnoticed. The head of the Corsican Mob approaches him and they ask him to do them a favor, which meant he had no choice or they would kill him. In return they would put him under their protection. He agrees to do the favor which was to kill a man. After the task was completed the Corsicans used him in exchange for their protection.

He became a valuable asset to their organization, since he was biracial being both Corsican and Arab. While he was in prison Malik decided to get an education and learn how to read and write. He did his studies and learned well. This made him even more of an asset because the Corsicans didn’t know he could now read and write and all the while when he was around them he was watching, listening and learning. He would have dreams and then the visions he had in his dreams would come true which is how he got the name A Prophet. He used this gift to his advantage.

Malik befriended several other inmates and he started doing his own thing. When he left prison he didn’t leave the same way he entered prison. I am giving it 3 out of 5 popcorn bags.
