The Secret in Their Eyes Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on May 28, 2010

This movie was very good. It really shows what the police go through when they work a case and how that case stays with them. A young woman named Liliana Coloto is brutally murdered. Benjamin Esposito, played by Ricardo Darrin is assigned to the case. He walks into the crime scene and he can’t believe his eyes. There is blood everywhere and there amidst the chaos of forensics and the police lay the battered body of a young woman. He is determined to find the monster that did this. He goes to Liliana’s husband Ricardo Morales, played by Pablo Rago.

He tells Ricardo that his wife has been murdered. Ricardo is devastated. He and his wife were newlyweds and he really loved her. He lets Benjamin look through their photo album to see if there could be any clues that would lead them to the killer. His hunch pays off he sees a man in several photos looking right at Liliana. It turns out the man in the photo grew up with her. His name was Isidoro Gomez, played by Javier Godino. Benjamin and his partner do some snooping and they track him down at a soccer game where he is arrested and charged with Liliana’s murder.

Benjamin’s boss Irene played by Solidad Villamil has a hunch that he is guilty because of the looking his eyes and how he was looking at her.  She agitates Isidoro to the extent that he lashes out and hits her exposing his true rage. He confesses to raping and killing Liliana. He is sentenced to life in prison, but things do not go as planned and somehow justice does not get served at that moment. This movie draws you in and keeps you in suspense until the end and the ending will blow your mind. I am giving it 4 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Prince of Persia Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on May 28, 2010

This movie has a lot of action. Jake Gyllenhaal plays Dastan who is a Prince of Persia. Gemma Artertan plays Princess Tamina, who’s city Dastan and the Persians invade.  Ben Kingsley plays Nizam, who is Dastan’s uncle and also the Villain of the story.  Richard Coyle plays Tus, who is Dastan’s brother and the one next in line to be King of Persia. Ronald Pickup plays the Persian King Sharaman. Under the direction of Mike Newell all the actors deliver good performances. The movie opens with Persia invading Princes Tamina’s City.  The fight scenes are brilliant especially when Jake uses the “par for” technique to jump over buildings. He ran up the side of walls, jumped and ran on top of buildings. He even falls, swings from ropes and jumps through windows. It was exciting to watch him do his own stunts.

He finds a dagger on one of Princess Tamina’s soldiers and he takes it not knowing what a powerful dagger it truly is. This dagger has the power to go back in time. If the sands of time were ever unleashed it could destroy life as we know it. Nizam wants the dagger so he can go back in time and reverse his saving the King when they were children, so he can be King forever. If he never saved the King then there would be no heirs to the throne and he would rule indefinitely.

Nizam kills the King and sets Dastan up to take the fall for the murder.  Princess Tamina is no ordinary Princess. She really is the guardian of the dagger. She and Dastan go on the run. He finds out the power of the dagger and he tries to return to set things right.  I liked this movie because of the action; even though the screen play was weak I’m giving it 3 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Sex and the City 2 Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on May 27, 2010

It’s  Sexsational! I really liked this movie! Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte are back and better than ever! It’s been two years and the Gals come together once more, but this time they embark on an adventure that will take them across the sea to the Middle East in Abu Dabi. The movie opens where the girls are buying wedding gifts for Stanford and Anthony. That’s right Stanford, who is Carrie’s best gay friend and Anthony, who is Charlotte’s best gay friend get married! The wedding is breathtaking. Everything is all in white and they even have swans. The choir is an all male choir and they sound fabulous. The best part about the wedding is Liza Minnelli singing Beyonce’s song “Single Ladies”. It was awesome! She has still got it and she looks great!  Carrie is Stanford’s best man and everyone is on hand to celebrate the nuptials.  Carrie and Big are still married and very much in love. Charlotte’s little girl Rose is going through the terrible twos and Charlotte is feeling the pressure of Motherhood.

Samantha is still enjoying single life, but she is now going through menopause. Miranda seems to have it all together she knows what she wants and she does it. After years of working she decides to quit her job and she is happier for it.  Samantha gets an all expense paid trip to the Middle East and she and the girls have quite an adventure. The hotel is breath taking and the cinematography is gorgeous. The scene where they are on the camels really shows the beautiful sands of the dessert.

There is a scene where Charlotte and Miranda talk about Motherhood and the pressures of being a Mother. It is priceless. I really liked this movie I am giving it 4 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Shrek Forever After

This is a fitting end to a great story. It is a bit bittersweet since it is the final chapter to this fairytale favorite, but it definitely delivers the laughs. The 3D effect makes them larger than life.  It is good to see the original cast has come together to once again voice and reprise their roles. Mike Myers is the voice of Shrek, Eddie Murphy is the voice of Donkey, Cameron Diaz is the voice of Fiona and Antonio Banderas is the voice of Puss in Boots. Julie Andrews and John Cleese also return as the voices of the King and Queen. In this final chapter a year has passed since Shrek and Fiona became parents and their babies are turning one. Shrek is feeling that their lives have become routine and he is missing his old life. Everyone travels to Far Far Away for their birthday celebration. Their method of travel is a lot different from before. Now flying air Dragon is the way to go and reduces the time it would have taken them to go by horse carriage.

They arrive and the party begins. Everyone is having a good time except Shrek. He misses his old life when Ogres were feared and people would run from them. He leaves the party and walks into a trap set by Rumplestiltskin voiced by Walt Dohm, who blames Shrek for rescuing Fiona. If he had not have rescued her, the King and Queen would have signed their kingdom over to him to save her. He tricks Shrek into signing a contract that would allow him to go back to his old life for one day, but that weasel Rumplestiltskin has ulterior motives. As a result Shrek only has 24 hrs to set things right.

I really liked this movie. I am giving it 4 out of 5 popcorn bags.

MacGruber Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on May 21, 2010

This movie is stupidity at its best! Wil Forte plays MacGruber, who is supposed to be a spoof of MacGyver.  I liked MacGyver and in a jam I’d want him on my side. I feel the opposite about MacGruber and in a jam I’d take anybody but him. I was really surprised that so many stars are in this movie. Val Kilmer plays the villain Dieter Von Cunth, who killed MacGruber’s wife Casey played by SNL star Maya Rudolph. Powers Booth plays Col. James Faith, Ryan Phillippe plays Lt. Dixon Piper and Kristen Wiig plays Vicki St. Elmo, who is MacGruber’s love interest. She’s either in love, insane or a little of both. She’d have to be to follow anything MacGruber says, because he is nuts. In scenes where he could get killed he has her dress up like him.

There are also some surprises such as some wrestling stars that make up MacGruber’s team. Chris Jericho plays Frank Korver, MVP plays Vernon Freedom, The Great Khali plays Tug Phelps and Kane plays Tanker Lutz. The Big Show is even in it and he plays Brick Hughes. In one scene he kisses a guy on the mouth. It was very surprising and disturbing. The special effects are ok, but nothing major. I must say that the scenes where MacGruber rips the throats of the bad guys out it does look real.

This Movie will probably win no awards, but it is good for a laugh or two. I wasn’t laughing hysterically, although there were some very funny moments and I couldn’t help but laugh. Like the scene where they are trying to get into a warehouse. To distract the guards MacGruber strips down naked with a celery stalk in his butt out of nowhere and dances in front of the guards. I have to admit that scene was pretty hilarious. I am giving it 3 out of 5 popcorn bags
