The most fun you will have at a movie! Want to spice up a musical classic? Add a sing-along. Grease is a musical known and loved all over the world. It’s about going from teenager to adult and falling in love. Some songs are hot and energetic while others can bring a tear. You will feel every emotion as you watch Danny and Sandy played by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John and Rizzo and Canicki played by Stockard Channing and Jeff Conaway fall in love. This movie takes you through their ups and downs with electric dance numbers and wonderful songs. This movie has it all! The experience of having everyone in the movie singing to the songs is so much fun. A chorus of voices can be heard from every side of the theatre with young and old joining together in song. What a rush! The amazing part is everyone knows all the songs!

The words to your favorite songs larger than life on the big screen infused with funny images that glide over each verse. All of your favorite songs like “Summer Nights”, “We Go Together”, and “Grease Lightning” to name a few. The scene at the dance where everybody is dancing looks even better on the big screen. It this movie is not playing in your city demand it. You will be glad you did. Everyone must experience this cool twist on “Grease”.  This movie rocks! I am giving it 5 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Dinner for Schmucks Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on July 30, 2010

This movie is schmuckarific! Steve Carell plays a lonely Taxidermist named Barry, who has a very extraordinary talent for making mouse art. Tim played by Paul Rudd is a Financial Analyst, who wants to climb the ladder of success.  He is up for a promotion that could change his life and get him a better office on a higher floor. He positions his firm to land a huge client worth a hundred million dollars. His boss played by Bruce Greenwood is so pleased with his work that he invites Tim to a secret dinner that only the elite people in his firm are privy to. Each person invited to this dinner has to bring an idiot with them and at the end of the night the person deemed the biggest idiot will win the trophy.

Tim meets Barry after he accidentally hit him with his car. Barry was trying to get the dead mouse in the street. Barry who is not hurt from the encounter is excited that he got hit by a Porsche because he’s never been hit by one before and he offers to pay Tim money for the accident, which makes no sense considering he was the one that was accidentally hit by Tim.  Tim realizes right away that Barry is an idiot and he invites him to the dinner.

Barry is over joyed. He gets the dates wrong and shows up at Tim’s place a day early and turns Tim’s whole world upside down. The scene where Barry gets into Tim’s computer is hilarious. There are some scenes in the movie that are so farfetched and over the top like the scene where Tim’s ex-girlfriend shows up and destroys Tim’s place was ridiculous and the scene at the dinner where the house catches fire was wild and unbelievable. It is this reason I can only give it 3 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore

Posted by Crystal Booker on July 30, 2010

Spyriffic! This movie has it all, spies, action, and animals! Bette Midler does the voice of Kitty Galore. Kitty is a bitter feline shunned by her own family as well as her fellow cats. James Marsden does the voice of Diggs a spunky canine that can’t seem to get things right. Christina Applegate does the voice of Catherine a stealthy feline spy willing to do whatever it takes to stop Kitty Galore. Michael Clark Duncan is back as the voice of Sam the shaggy dog and Joe Pantaliano as back as the voice of Peek the hairless little dog that sees everything. Nick Nolte does the voice of Butch a strong canine super spy.  Sean Hayes returns as the voice of Mr. Tinkles a cat with issues. Kat Williams stills the show as the voice of Seamus a pigeon that Kitty Galore is after because of information he has. Neil Patrick Harris does the voice of Lou head of the dog spies and Roger Moore does the voice of Tab Lazenby the debonair leader of the cat spies. All the stars give great performances in bringing their characters to life.

Kitty Galore is a devious feline bent on revenge. She is bitter because her owners kicked her out at Christmas. Since then she has been determined to exact her revenge on the humans. Her plan is to send out a signal through a satellite that only dogs can hear. Once they hear it they will go crazy and turn on humans. This does not bode well with the dogs or cats. They reluctantly form an alliance to take Kitty Galore down. The special effects are awesome! The scene where Butch is chasing Seamus to save him from one of Kitty Galore’s henchcats is hilarious but very thrilling. The 3D effects in this movie are unnecessary and they don’t make or break the film. I am giving it 4 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Cyrus Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on July 16, 2010

This movie is very slow and the ending leaves much to be desired. John C. Riley plays John a divorcee trying to make it in the dating world. He meets Molly played by Marisa Tomei at a party given by his ex-wife played by Katherine Keener. He and Molly hit it off immediately and they begin seeing each other. One thing that bothers John is that Molly never stays over night with him. They have sex and then she leaves. At first he thinks she is married or involved with someone else, so he decides to find out what is going on with her. One night she leaves and he decides to follow her. He follows her back to her house and waits to see if another man comes out. He is not prepared for what he finds.

He finds Cyrus played by Jonah Hill, who is Molly’s grown son. Cyrus doesn’t want John taking his place with his mother, thus the battle over Molly begins. First Cyrus steals John’s shoes, which makes no sense. The scene where they are eating dinner and Cyrus is asking John a bunch of questions is very funny because John reveals too much and the look on Cyrus and Molly’s face is hilarious. The scene where John is talking to the lady at the party is also very funny because he is drunk. This is also the scene where he first meets Molly.

The story mainly is about a mother that desperately needs to cut the apron strings, so she can have her own life and let her son have a life. It’s also about change and new relationships. Besides that there really isn’t anything else very interesting about this movie. The scenes mentioned earlier do provide some funny moments. It is this reason that I am giving it 3 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Inception Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on July 16, 2010

This movie is “Inceptional!” Christopher Nolan has done it again as both writer and director of the film. Under his direction all the actors deliver brilliant performances. Leonardo DiCaprio once again plays a complex character. This time his character Cobb takes you on a journey inside of his mind. You see his thoughts, but you also see his issues and what haunts him. The memory of his dead wife Mal played by Marion Cotillard is very dominant and she gets into his dreams and sabatages them. Ellen Page plays Ariadne, who is the Architect that unlocks his secrets and Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Arthur, who is his right hand man. Arthur goes with him into the dreams. Michael Caine plays Cobb’s father Miles, who also studies the art of inception, which is the ability to manipulate a person’s thoughts by entering into their dreams. During inception you can plant an idea into someone’s mind and that idea can become a reality once that person is awake.  He is the one that introduces Cobb to Ariadne. Each team member brings different unique vital components to the team that are essential for their mission to be a success.

Ken Watanabe plays Saito, who hires Cobb and his team to manipulate the dreams of Robert Fischer who is a rich heir played by Cillian Murphy. His rich father is on his death bed and Robert needs to know that his father loved him. Cobb and his team help him find out those answers to his questions. The special effects are amazing because they defy gravity and reality.

The elevator scene where Arthur is pushing everyone and keeping them together is amazing. The stunts are excellent. The level of trust these characters have to have is just awesome! The way everything comes together is nothing short of genius. This film draws you in and does not let you go. It compels you to continue on the journey with Cobb.  It’s rare that you find this in a film, but all the characters are likeable. Leonardo DiCaprio once again shows his brilliant acting ability. I am giving this film 5 out of  5  popcorn bags.
