The American Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on September 1, 2010

George Clooney stars as an American Hitman named Jack. George delivers a good performance. There are very few characters in this film and less dialogue. You can look at Jack’s facial expressions to understand what he is thinking and feeling. George delivers this very well. The opening of the film is very normal. In the scene Jack is enjoying the company of his lady friend. They appear to be at some cabin in the mountains. The scenery is beautiful with the snow all around. They seem very happy and decide to get dressed and go for a walk. All is well until their walk turns deadly. Jack is forced to flee for his life. He calls his boss Pavel played by Johan Leysen and they make arrangements for him to go to Italy and await his next assignment.

In his line of work Jack must travel with as little luggage as possible. He only carries a back pack. He has no cell phone because he doesn’t trust them. He throws away the cell phone his boss gives him and uses pay phones instead.  The life he leads is a lonely existence. He falls for a prostitute named Clara played by Violante Placido and he befriends a Priest played by Paolo Bonacelli. These are the only two people he trusts.

His life is a dangerous one. He can’t walk down the street without someone trying to kill him. There are some intense moments in this film. The scene where he gets on a motorcycle chasing the man trying to kill him is thrilling because you don’t know how it will play out. The stunt driving is awesome! This movie starts slow then builds up then slows back down. George captures the solitary life Jack leads and he lets you into to that life. It deserves 4 out of 5 popcorn bags.
