Machete Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on September 3, 2010

Danny Trejo is Machete! This movie is slicarific! It has everything humor, action and more action! Under the direction of Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis this all star cast delivers an all star performance. It is good to see Michelle Rodriguez back on the big screen. She plays the character Luz and she gives an action packed performance.  Steven Seagal also returns to the big screen as the ruthless drug lord Torrez.  Jessica Alba plays the immigration officer Santana. Robert De Niro plays Senator McLaughlin a corrupt Senator that wants to build an elitrified fence around the Mexican Border to keep immigrants out of Texas.

The story basically is about an illegal immigrant and ex-federale cop Machete and how he leads a revolution for change in the treatment of Mexican immigrants. In his quest he suffered many losses on the way like the murder of his family. His wife was beheaded right in front of him. This image haunts him every day. For this he wants his revenge against Torrez. Machete joins a network which consists of people that don’t agree with the immigration laws, so they help immigrants to make it across the border and they hep them to make a new life in America.

The special effects in this movie are awesome! The scene where Machete slices off body parts, chops off heads and stabs people look real. The scene where Machete grabs this hit man’s intestines from his insides and uses it as a rope is so realistic and very thrilling to watch. This movie draws you in from beginning to end. There are even some funny moments in this film like the scene where Machete is texting. Danny Trejo takes this role and owns it! He is Machete! It deserves 4 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Going the Distance Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on September 3, 2010

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long team up in this romantic comedy. Drew Barrymore plays Erin an intern that wants to be a writer for a news outlet preferably in New York. Justin Long plays Garrett a record company talent scout. In the film they meet and decide to get to know each other and hang out for the rest of her time there.  Erin is only a summer intern so she must return to San Francisco to finish grad school.  Before she leaves they spend all their time together. You can see the chemistry between them. It’s interesting to watch them fall for each other. Garrett takes Erin to the airport and they decide to have a long distance relationship because neither wanted to lose the other. This film captures just how difficult a long distance relationship can be.

At first they talk on the phone and text each other every chance they get, which tends to drive Garrett’s friends crazy.  The scene where Garrett’s friend Box played by Jason Sudeikis takes his phone and literally destroys it is unbelievable. He is lucky Garrett is such a nice guy because most people would have given him the beat down without hesitation. There are a lot of funny moments in the movie. The scene where Garrett’s friend Dan is on the toilet is hilarious because he is sitting there joining in a conversation.

The guys aren’t the only ones that have the comedy cornered. Christina Applegate plays Corinne Erin’s older sister.  The Nanny could take a lesson from her as to how to calm a energetic child. The scenes with Corinne and her daughter Maya played by Taylor Schwencke are absolutely brilliant. Every parent should definitely try her technique. It definitely works. This movie has something for everyone. It deserves 4 out of 5 popcorn bags.
