Matt Damon and Jody Foster star in this sci-fi film of what ifs. Written and directed by Neill Blomkamp this film is a very powerful testament. Set in the distant future the planet Elysium is a separate planet created for the rich and privileged. Jody Foster plays the Secretary of Defense for Elysium. It is at her discretion who gets to be a citizen of Elysium.  Max played by Matt Damon has always dreamed of going to Elysium, but has never had enough funds to buy a ticket. Only the wealthy dwell there hovering above earth as if they were superior to everyone else. Another thing that makes Elysium so special is they have medical technology that can cure any thing from severed limbs, broken bones, chronic diseases and even cancer.

This film depicts how the rich and wealthy in our society set themselves apart from the middle to lower class. Like in the film instead of helping those less fortunate they look down on them and will even commit murder to protect their way of life. The scene where Jody Foster’s character Secretary Delacourt orders the destruction of an unauthorized ship carrying over forty illegals really shows just how ruthless her character can be. She will stop at nothing to prevent any one she deems unworthy to enter Elysium. This also includes women and children.

This film has a lot of action. The special effects are very well done. It also has a very powerful message. It definitely holds your attention and draws you in as such that you begin to care for the characters. This film gets 3.5 out 5 popcorn bags.
