Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on November 18, 2011

This film shows what true love is all about. It was definitely worth the wait. Bella and Edward finally get married! The wedding coordinated by Alice is spectacular and so beautiful. Everything has been planned down to every detail. In the scene when Bella walks down the aisle towards Edward waiting at the alter you can see the love they share so clear. It is a very emotional scene because we know their story and everything they have over come to arrive at this one moment. Even Jacob shares in the occasion. The song that Edward and Bella dance to at the wedding is also the song danced to at their Prom from the first Twilight film.

The cinematography is breathtaking. In the scene where Edward takes Bella away on their honey moon and they are sailing in a boat shows how big, beautiful the sea is. He takes her to a beautiful island. It is so romantic. They finally consummate their love. The passion is so intense that Edward breaks the bed!  The result of their nights of passion is an unexpected pregnancy.

The special effects are amazing. The scenes where Jacob and the pack turn into wolves is so believable with the way they move and the way their fur moves in the wind. Bella’s pregnancy costuming makes it really believable. The scenes showing how the baby is sucking the life out of her are so sad because you can see just how tormented Edward is from watching her go through all the agony and pain. He starts to hate the baby until he connects with it and reads it’s mind which creates a bond that brings him closer to Bella and the baby. This film is definitely a must see! It gets 5 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Happy Feet Two 3D Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on November 18, 2011

Dancerrific! This film is toe tapping fun. It’s got something for everyone. It has more songs than before, more dancing and some new friends like the Mighty Sven voiced by Hank Azaria. Mumble voiced by Elijah Wood and Gloria voiced by Pink now have a son Erik voiced by Ava Acres who like his Father is struggling to find himself and what he was meant to do. Robin Williams also returns as the voice of Ramon and Lovelace which bring a lot of laughs to the mix. Some new friends joining the cast are Brad Pitt and Matt Damon as Will the Krill and Bill the Krill. These two add something new and different. Will  is tired of following the swarm so he and Bill venture off in search of new life.

It’s funny because all of the new characters are in search of the same thing which is a place to belong and feel apart of something. The scene where Will tries to eat the leopard seal is hilarious because he is so small and he is seriously determined to eat this huge creature. His determination is very inspiring because he literally doesn’t care about size. The only thing he knows is his belief in himself to do whatever he sets his mind to do. Bill tries to be the voice of reason, but Will is not trying to hear him.

The animation is beautiful how the colors juat leap off screen with snow so real you want to reach out and touch it. The 3D effect in this film really doesn’t do anything for it. You could take it or leave it. Pink des a great job as Gloria. Her vocal abilities are phenomenal. The part really suits her nicely. This film is a definite mst see. It gets 5 out of 5 popcorn bags, but actually it desefves 10 plus popcorn bags.

Jack and Jill Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on November 11, 2011

Adam Sandler gives us a glimpse into the world of Twins in this wacky comedy about Twins. Adam plays dual roles as male and female Twins named Jack and Jill.  Jack can’t stand Jill because she is too clingy. The over all story makes sense. The film has some very funny moments. Adam Sandler and Davisd Spade in drag hopefully will be a one time thing. The celebrity cameos will astonish you! Aside from Sandler’s close friends who act in just about all of his movies, the biggest surprise of the film is Al Pacino who plays a very insane version of himself! Shaquille O’Neal also does a cameo where we get to see his comedic side which is a side of him seldom seen.

The most interesting part of the film is the opening credits and the end credits where you see real Twins talking about what ity’s like to be twins. The majority of them are identical, but once you hear them individually speak you can immediately see just how different they are in their thinking and also how they act. You can also see just how much they love and truly mean to  eachother. It’s a beautiful thing!

If you want to see a funny, feel good film then go see this film. While it is crazy and over the top at times, it is about family and the love between siblings and how in the end family is what counts. It gets 3 out of 5 popcorn bags.

J. Edgar Movie Review

Posted by Crystal Booker on November 11, 2011

Riveting! Enlightening! This film has so many twists and turns in the life of the late Director of the FBI J. Edgar Hoover., that it holds your attention from the opening scene until the end credits. Leonardo DiCaprio delivers a brilliant performance as the man himself. Clint Eastwood has done it again! As with the majority of his films this one is also very thought provoking. He goes deep into the life of Hoover where we get to know the real Hoover. The story is told in flash backs in his life which gives us a chance to understand and see what events in his past shaped and molded him into the man with which we are familiar.  Leonardo becomes J. Edgar Hoover and draws you in to the extent that you no longer see Leonardo but the character he is portraying. The aging of the actors is remarkable! The scenes where you see the flashbacks they are young, but when the scene returns to their present day they have all aged a considerable amount.

Clint Eastwood also captured the periods perfectly from the changing times where he includes real live footage of various historical moments to give the film more authenticity. This film also brings a  lot of the achievements of Hoover to light. He was definitely a man who loved his country and all he wanted to do was protect his fellow Americans. His methods may have been a bit unorthodox, but one can’t dispute the fact that they were very effective. Thanks to the efforts and high expectations of his FBI Agents they always got their man. As a result they solved as well as prevented many crimes.

Leonardo also captured the longing Hoover felt to be accepted by his Mother played by Judi Dench. She really captured the coldness of his Mother, whom he loved with all his heart. This film is definitely a must see! It is very Oscar worthy! It gets 4 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Anonymous Movie Review

This film is spectacular! It moves a bit slow but it’s not boring. It holds your attention from the opening scene to the ending scene. Under the direction of Roland Emmerich the actors deliver great performances. The story is very interesting and intrigueing. It is also a very bold script to question history and attempt to shed light on a mystery that no one even knew existed. It definitely doesn’t paint the Monarchy in a good light, but it does answer many questions, such as the fact that Queen Elizabeth I played by real life mother and daughter Vanessa Redgrave and  Joely Richardson did have children. It is both shocking and very sad that she really didn’t know them, but her Chief Advisor William Cecil played by David Thewlis did know who and where they were.

This film portrays the deceit and betrayals of the times. Art and literature fourished but was banned because the church felt that people worshiped plays and those that created them. One such playwrite was William Shakespeare played by Rafe Spall. His is a dispicable character who is greedy and selfish. Ben Johnson is another playwrite played by Sebastian Armesto. He longs to see his works be celebrated and he keeps the secret of the Earl of Oxford played by Rhs Ifans who is a Nobleman and very talented with the heart of a hopeless romantic and a literary genius.

The costumes and sets really capture the time period from the planks over the cobble stone streets to the horse and carriages that travel through the cobble stone streets. It is dark and solemn with bursts of color in the scenes where you see the staging of the plays and the actors in bright beautiful costumes. Because of the subject and brilliant acting this film is Oscar worthy. The end will  blow your mind!  It gets 4 out of 5 popcorn bags.
